COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Virginia is a 9 to 12-month-old female Akita mix who is the rescue's longest-staying pet and will hit six months there tomorrow; she is friendly with people and dogs + she does not like cats and is now available for adoption. The rescue also has other pets looking for homes.  SiouxlandProud
  • Anyone attending this year's Woodbury County Fair in Moville can enjoy a chance to sit on an oversized, bright-blue Adirondack chair built by 4-H member Rylee Vohs. Vohs crafted the chair last summer—hoping it becomes a new fair tradition for family photo opportunities.  Sioux City Journal

CRIME NEWS

  • Iowa woman Jennifer Weber, treasurer for the Oto Ambulance Service, has been charged with stealing nearly $13,000 through 64 unauthorized ATM withdrawals in Woodbury County and 33 in Monona County — she posted a $10,000 bond on July 18 and is scheduled to appear in court on August 13 after using the funds to buy airplane tickets for herself and her boyfriend.  SiouxlandProud

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • On Friday, locals joined the Sioux City Environmental Services Department in cleaning streets as part of the 25on25 initiative that encourages picking up 25 pieces of litter on the 25th of each month through 2025. Free supplies were available at City Hall (405 6th Street) and officials said the cleanup took about 10 minutes to help the environment.  SiouxlandProud

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • BNSF will close the railroad crossing on B Street in South Sioux City on Monday for repairs until Friday—drivers should plan to use alternate routes during this work.  Sioux City Journal
  • On July 25, more than $60 million in funding to improve Nebraska infrastructure advanced out of a Senate Committee—including $2.5 million to replace the aerial ladder at South Sioux City Fire Department—and officials said the funds are part of the fiscal year 2026 Transportation, Housing, and Urban Development Appropriations Act awaiting Senate floor consideration.  SiouxlandProud
  • Sioux City police said juvenile-related incidents dropped over summer break — one candidate has interviewed for the city manager position and residents helped collect air quality data.  SiouxlandProud

HEALTH NEWS

  • Tick season is active from March through November as Iowa State University Extension and Outreach notes, and Park Manager Jody Moats advises wearing long pants with socks and long sleeves while checking for ticks after outdoor activities. She also recommends using bug spray with DEET — these tips help protect both people and pets from tick bites.  KTIV

REAL ESTATE NEWS

  • Downtown Sioux City is set for change as the 105-year-old building at 901 5th Street will soon have 13 apartments, 15,000 square feet of leasable commercial space, a fitness center and an expanded brewery. City Council Member Alex Watters said the project—expected to complete later this year—may spur further development and help lower housing prices.  SiouxlandProud
