- ➤ A new billboard on Gordon Drive honors murdered Indigenous woman Lori Ann DeCora—also known as Wanga Ja Hu Winga—and raises awareness of other missing and murdered Indigenous cases in Sioux City. Funds raised from a June silent auction helped create the tribute for a case that remains unsolved. SiouxlandProud

- ➤ A 39-year-old Estherville man on a motorcycle led police on a high-speed chase that began in Arnolds Park and passed through Okoboji and Spirit Lake before he was caught on Highway 9 — he now faces charges for eluding, reckless driving, and speeding. KTIV
- ➤ A Sioux City man pleaded guilty to federal drug charges on July 24 — 30-year-old Richard Martinez admitted to possessing methamphetamine and aiding another with intent to distribute after a high-speed chase near WinnaVegas Casino, and he now faces a mandatory minimum of 5 years in prison along with heavy fines and supervised release. - ➤ Heavy rain fell over Siouxland these past few days with nearly 2 inches recorded in Sioux City on Tuesday and totals of 6.5 inches in Granville and 4.01 inches in Orange City—flooding along the Floyd River near Struble and Alton eased as river levels were forecast to return to normal. GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Sioux City's Engineering Division announced that street repairs on South Lakeport Street will begin next week—starting Monday, Aug. 4 with lane closures between Ravine Park Drive and Mayhew Avenue that will last for about two weeks, weather permitting, while drivers are urged to reduce speed and obey traffic signs. - ➤ The City of Sioux City Engineering Division said the Floyd River Trail will be closed for three weeks starting August 4 for resurfacing work—trail users are advised to follow closure signs and use alternate paths. SiouxlandProud
- ➤ On July 29th, the Iowa Department of Insurance and Financial Services warned Iowans after severe storms in Northwest Iowa to watch for scams—unregistered contractors, fraudulent insurance helpers, and imposters posing as FEMA agents may try to steal money. The agency urged residents to verify credentials and get multiple repair estimates—report any suspicious offers to the proper authorities immediately. Sioux Country Radio

- ➤ Brad Winters restored the 120 year old Red Room Lounge at 1000 W. Seventh St.—a family gathering place—and updated its electrical, plumbing, roof and other key features after damage from a February pipe burst.
