- ➤ Over the weekend, protestors from Sweetgrass Uprising and Siouxland Good Troublemakers marched from South Sioux City to the museum to support human rights—making four prayer stops along the way at local landmarks. SiouxlandProud
- ➤ Local radio DJ Denny Big Daddy Anderson signed off permanently on Saturday at The Anthem in the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino—he hosted a live show with special guests before the ZZ Top concert. He joined 99.5 in 2004 and will be replaced next week by DJ Chopper Scott. SiouxlandProud

- ➤ Statewide gaming revenue in Iowa dipped for the third consecutive year, with Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in downtown Sioux City declining 1.6% and Grand Falls Casino Resort dropping 5.1% for the budget year that ended June 30. Industry officials say revenue remains 15.2% above pre-pandemic levels and new projects like Cedar Crossing Casino in Cedar Rapids are expected to boost state figures in the coming years. CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ Last summer, Mark Anderson and his team dug at the 1867 Kirchner Log House near Peterson to learn more about pioneer life and uncovered about 2,000 artifacts including rusty nails, animal bones, a mourning brooch— and a medicine bottle from Albany that hints at early delivery practices. The findings will be shown at the local museum later this year to enrich historical tours and help visitors understand Iowa’s early settlers. Sioux City Journal

- ➤ The North Sioux City Fire Department renamed its training facility as the Chief William Pappas Training Facility to honor his more than three decades of service since joining in 1986 and becoming chief in 1989 — several firefighters from Nebraska and Iowa gathered to express their gratitude for his leadership.
