COMMUNITY NEWS
- ➤ Representatives from Boys and Girls Home met with the Sioux City Rotary Club on Monday afternoon to update progress on the Ginny Peterson Behavioral Health Campus on Indian Hills Drive. They said all residential and support spaces are finished — only the school is still under construction — and the group plans to work with Sioux City Schools for an alternative education program. CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ The Sioux City Public History Museum will start its History at High Noon series on the third Thursday of each month at 12:05 p.m. at the downtown museum — the program will offer photo-based presentations on topics like local labor movements, Lawrence Welk’s early days, and brewing history with Labor’s Long Road to Recognition set for August 21. - ➤ Sioux City Public Museum will host a living history encampment at Sergeant Floyd River Museum and Welcome Center starting Saturday, Aug 16 at 10 a.m. until Sunday, Aug 17 at 3 p.m.—the free event will feature children's activities and a burial re-enactment of Sgt. Charles Floyd on Saturday at 6 p.m. KTIV

- ➤ Sioux City Head Start teacher Alysha Ivory wrote a book called 'Exactly How You Are' inspired by her daughter McKinley’s unique, curly hair to encourage kids to love themselves. She hosted readings at Girls Inc. and will hold another reading and hair demonstration on Saturday, Aug. 9, at 10 a.m.—at B’s Nutrition on Pierce Street. KTIV
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Sioux City approved a donation agreement to purchase the former Jewish Community Center at 525 14th Street for one dollar so it can be repurposed as permanent supportive housing for people transitioning from homelessness — city staff will seek grant funding in 2026 and begin development then. KTIV
- ➤ State Rep. Bobby Kaufmann was elected Iowa House majority leader on Monday, replacing Rep. Matt Windschitl (who is running for Congress) as he took charge of the caucus for the remainder of the 91st General Assembly. Kaufmann, who has served since 2013 and chaired key committees (including Ways and Means), said he was honored by his colleagues and planned to unite the caucus to support policies that strengthen the economy and families. - ➤ Sioux City Council offered the city manager position to Craig Clark on Aug. 4 and tasked staff with contract negotiations. Clark, who leads the City of Austin Port Authority in Minnesota — his role follows the retirement of former City Manager Bob Padmore and interim service by Mike Collett, impressed the council with his focus on community growth. - ➤ North Sioux City commissioners said that Penrose Drive construction is one week behind schedule but will finish before school starts on August 18, and Northshore Drive is closed until August 15 with reconstruction set to begin next spring. They also updated the Homeowner Recovery Project to help flood-affected homeowners, with interest forms due August 14 and a purchase agreement expected by late September — further details on phase two will be available soon.
