- ➤ The USDA Crop Progress Report released August 4 shows that 97% of corn fields are silking and 53% have reached the dough stage in Northwest Iowa despite damage from a derecho, two tornadoes, and heavy rains — some fields were flattened and left with standing water. Farmers recorded fewer days for fieldwork than usual and say cooler temperatures may help the crops recover as August enters its final stretch. Sioux Country Radio

- ➤ Sioux County Emergency Management launched a new Facebook page that gives residents real-time safety updates, emergency alerts, and tips for emergency preparedness. Coordinator Ryan De Kruyf said the move will improve clear communication during storms and emergencies—he will discuss his role on The Daily Grind on Friday the 15th at 9 a.m. on 93.9 KSOU FM.
