COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Sioux City Fire Rescue is hosting a movie night at Grandview Park today at 7 p.m. — the movie Dog Man will begin at 9 p.m.  Sioux City Journal
  • Judge Duane Hoffmeyer, who served nearly 25 years on the bench, now plays pickleball three times a week at Long Lines Family Rec Center and leads the Siouxland Pickleball Association with over 500 members—he says the sport keeps him both physically and mentally alert, offering a welcome change after years in the courtroom.  Sioux City Journal
  • On Friday, Siouxland celebrated National Pickleball Day as players met on many courts and enjoyed the game. The Siouxland Pickleball Association now offers free beginner courses and supplies in several local facilities.  KTIV

CRIME NEWS

  • Sioux City woman Angela Bino was found guilty of first-degree murder for beating and stabbing her mother Suzette Occhibone on Oct. 26, 2023 in the shared apartment with her daughter Jessica Bino—sentencing will be scheduled later and both face life in prison without parole.  Sioux City Journal

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The Boyden-Hull Community School District was selected as one of 15 statewide to receive up to $50,000 from the Iowa Department of Education to boost career and technical education programs & help students earn industry-recognized credentials. Grant funds will cover exam fees, equipment, training and curriculum updates to connect classroom skills with workforce demand.  Sioux Country Radio

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Iowa DOGE Task Force met in Des Moines on Wednesday and discussed proposals that would let cities over 50,000 provide their own services and tie teacher pay to student performance. The group also recommended aligning public employee benefits with the private sector — plans they will finalize by September.  Sioux City Journal
  • The Sioux City Engineering Division said the water main replacement project on Central Street will begin Monday — lane closures will affect traffic during the work.  Sioux City Journal
