COMMUNITY NEWS
- ➤ Sioux City will convert a 1920s warehouse at 308 Iowa Street into an Innovation Center. The city is partnering with Western Iowa Tech Community College, Siouxland Public Media + Iowa’s West Coast Initiative to renovate the building. Sioux City Journal
ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ Crews responded at around 7:30 a.m. today to a HAZMAT incident at the Kingsbury Interchange — the crossing of Highway 20 and Highway 77 — after a semi carrying pesticides and helicopter fuel rolled over, leading to closed northbound lanes as the injured driver was taken to a hospital. KTIV

- ➤ Summit Carbon Solutions has a new CEO, Joe Griffin — who sent letters to landowners outlining planned updates to the carbon pipeline project that will open new markets and create local opportunities. The letters also note a new senior leadership team and a forthcoming revised Right of Way proposal for landowners who have not yet signed an easement. Sioux City Journal

- ➤ Michael Sie Lee Street (23) did not report back to the Sioux City work release facility on Aug. 5 (the Iowa Department of Corrections reported his escape). Sioux City Journal
- ➤ A man was charged with attempted murder after he fired five shots at Sioux City police officers during a high-speed pursuit on South Lewis Boulevard—he reached speeds of up to 100 mph as he fled. Sioux City Journal
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Harney Elementary in South Sioux City held a half-day on Monday as students began school amid overcrowding, with 390 of 400 seats filled. Principal Andreasen said his staff is using temporary methods & extra training to keep routines stable as all grades start full days today. KTIV
- ➤ On Monday, the Sioux City Community School District's board set legislative priorities that include a push for increased state funding. The board expects the proposal to gain traction in upcoming discussions — a step aimed at bolstering local school resources — as they prepare for the next school year. Sioux City Journal
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ City Council approved an agreement for the Big Sioux River levee extension project, with City Engineer Gordon Phair saying the design is easy and construction is cheap — permitting is the remaining step before work can proceed. Sioux City Journal
