COMMUNITY NEWS

  • United Way of Siouxland kicked off its 2025 campaign on Aug 14 to raise nearly $3 million for 23 programs focused on mental health, adult education, childcare, and youth readiness — the event featured a t-shirt toss and strong local support while aiming to serve 14,000 people. Local partners and CNOS leaders are driving the effort to help improve lives one story at a time.  KTIV

CRIME NEWS

  • A man admitted to possessing false IDs—California driver’s license, Texas identification card and North Carolina identification card—and was sentenced to jail in Sioux County.  Sioux City Journal
  • Sioux City teens were sentenced to prison after they carried out two gunpoint robberies on September 7—events that occurred minutes apart.  Sioux City Journal

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • State and local law enforcement are working with the Governor’s Traffic Safety Bureau to enforce a drive sober or get pulled over project starting today and lasting until September 1 to reduce impaired driving after last summer’s fatal crashes—officers will watch for drivers showing signs of impairment.  Sioux Country Radio
  • Iowa House Speaker Pat Grassley and Senate Majority Leader Jack Whitver said they will not change IPERS—despite a DOGE task force proposing a shift to a defined contribution plan and set to meet again on Sept 15. They stressed that the ideas are only suggestions and no legislative proposals are planned to affect current public employees.  Sioux City Journal
