COMMUNITY NEWS
- ➤ Reverend Robert N. Lauderdale, Sr. will become the new pastor at Mount Zion Missionary Baptist Church on 1400 Pierce St.—his installation is scheduled at the Sioux City Convention Center on August 31st at 3 p.m. and the church will host an informal meet-and-greet on August 30th at 5:30 p.m. for the community. - ➤ More than 150 people gathered on Saturday at Willow Creek Golf Course in Le Mars for the 26th annual Iowa SIDS Foundation Walk for the Future that raised nearly $30,000 to aid families and support research on sudden infant death syndrome. Organizers said the funds will provide bereavement help+ community education going forward. KTIV
- ➤ Yesterday, Aug. 24, the Independent Riders for Children and Charities held their 34th annual Toy Run—more than 100 bikers from several groups rode from Sugar Daddy’s in North Sioux City to Brunsville to raise money for local charities that help children and their families in need. KTIV
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ The Sioux City Council will be asked today to repeal a one-year moratorium on automobile sales, rental and service locations + set a cap of 20 future used motor vehicle dealerships. Sioux City Journal
- ➤ U.S. Rep. Randy Feenstra and state Rep. Taylor Collins signed a letter to the Iowa Board of Regents asking that university employees who violate anti-DEI laws be fired— they noted that many are on paid administrative leave while investigations continue. Sioux City Journal
- ➤ Iowa hunters can expect a new deer tag option for disabled veterans this season - eligible veterans must submit a DD-214 copy, a current VA letter, and a Hunter Safety Certificate while paying a $33 fee. The new tag will cover the established firearm season and is available to those who meet Iowa DNR requirements. KTIV
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ Former Army trauma surgeon who saved soldiers in the Battle of Mogadishu (inspired Blackhawk Down) visited Sioux City last week to promote a plan that will carry blood on eligible ambulances, including in Siouxland. His proposal aims to provide timely prehospital transfusions that could save lives in emergencies. Sioux City Journal
