CRIME NEWS

  • Sioux City woman Barnes received a 20-year sentence after she shot her boyfriend Dolorean Wade through the door of her apartment at 516 Ninth St. on June 9, 2022—her sentencing followed a trial for the fatal shooting.  Sioux City Journal

CULTURE NEWS

  • Sioux City's hip-hop duo D.A.D. will open the Iowa Rock & Roll Music Association 2025 Hall of Fame Induction Weekend at 7 p.m. in Arnolds Park as they receive the Spirit Award.  Sioux City Journal

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Sioux City Schools will now use a collections agency to handle cases with more than $300 in unpaid lunch fees if other communication methods fail + officials say this step is meant to secure funds for the school meals provided.  Sioux City Journal
  • Sioux City Community School District Associate Superintendent Angela Bemus greeted teachers and students at East Middle School on the first day by handing out twin bings and Chick-fil-A coupons—stepping in while Superintendent Dr. Juan Córdova is on leave. The district plans to use long-term substitutes, student teachers, and co-teaching in the ELL program to address staffing challenges.  KTIV

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Fungal disease Southern rust has spread across Iowa and affected corn crops in 49 counties since mid-July—experts say heavy rain has boosted its development. They warn that fungicide sprays may not protect corn in later stages—farmers still plan to harvest the infected crops, though the yield impact remains uncertain.  Sioux City Journal

  • Nick Davidson, a longtime Sioux City resident, announced his candidacy for a council seat on Monday in a Facebook post — he will run in the next election.  Sioux City Journal
