ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Drivers in Iowa must stop at least 20 feet away from a school bus with red flashing lights and an extended stop-arm to ensure children board safely—traffic reports show 179 fatalities this year, 12 more since last Friday. As students return to class, the reminder aims to keep everyone safe on the road.  Sioux Country Radio

CRIME NEWS

  • Police and paramedics responded to 3077 Myrtle St. at 2:10 p.m. today after a call reported an unconscious male—residing in the home—who was later pronounced dead and is now under investigation.  Sioux City Journal

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Sheldon High School will start on Tuesday, Sept. 2 due to ongoing construction that has delayed its opening, and students will begin at 8:10 a.m. as renovations add classrooms and new facilities—work that will continue in phases until summer 2026.  KTIV
  • Sheldon Community School District will ask voters on Tuesday, Sept. 9 to approve a Physical Plant and Equipment Levy with polls open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m.—the current levy rate funds about $840,000 each year for facility, technology, and bus improvements without a tax increase. Superintendent Cory Myer said he is confident that the community will support keeping these vital services running.  KTIV

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Former Iowa State Representative Dave Dawson, a long-time Siouxland public servant, announced his candidacy for Iowa’s 4th Congressional District. Dawson—who has served as a prosecutor, coach and church elder—said he will focus on affordable healthcare, higher incomes and rural investment.  KTIV
  • John Den Beste and Ike Rayford joined the Sioux City Council race as confirmed by the City Clerk’s Office on Wednesday. Den Beste works as a financial advisor + Rayford owns a corporate training and facilitation business.  Sioux City Journal
