CRIME NEWS

  • Wenzel pleaded not guilty of attempted murder after he fired shots at Sioux City police officers on Aug. 8 during a high-speed chase that reached up to 100 mph on South Lewis Boulevard—authorities say the incident unfolded amid a dangerous pursuit.  Sioux City Journal
  • No foul play was suspected in the death of a man in a Sioux City home on Tuesday—local authorities are reviewing the case details.  Sioux City Journal
  • Pendleton was found guilty of second-degree murder—he fatally shot his girlfriend, Danielle Dolan, 46, in the bedroom of a home at 1319 W. 19th St. on Aug. 25th.  Sioux City Journal

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Siouxland’s tourism group Explore Siouxland is using a new AI tool called PlacerAI to collect data on visitor counts and event details from summer games and festivals — a tool that uses mobile cookies for safe data collection — and it plans a training session soon to guide local businesses in using this information.  KTIV
  • Siouxland employers have posted new openings for job seekers—residents can check the listings for local positions, with opportunities available for various career paths. Applicants are invited to review the details and apply soon.  Sioux City Journal

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Seven candidates filed paperwork by noon Thursday with the Sioux City Clerk’s Office to run for one of three seats on the five-member City Council—expanding the candidate field for the upcoming election.  Sioux City Journal
  • Starting Tuesday, September 2, drivers in Sioux Center will see traffic changes on Highway 75 as two intersections reopen for east-west travel while the downtown 3rd Street North crossing closes—city crews begin utility work in the area. Officials said the project will ease travel and plan to restore two-way traffic in November.  Sioux Country Radio
  • Sergeant Bluff-Luton celebrates its new athletic complex that features the district’s first tennis courts — the city is also preparing a $37 million bond to build a new primary school connected to the current elementary school.  Sioux City Journal
