ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Northwest Iowa communities and businesses supported the families of three teenagers killed in a house fire outside Granville on Monday—while a fourth teenager remained in critical condition in a Minnesota burn unit and local groups held fundraisers to aid the victims.  Sioux Country Radio

CRIME NEWS

  • A Sioux City man (34-year-old Kent Vink) was arrested on felony eluding charges after he drove his motorcycle over 25 mph above the speed limit near George on August 15th and now faces multiple misdemeanor charges with a preliminary hearing set for September 12th while he remains in jail with a $10,000 bond.  KTIV
  • A Sioux City man was arrested on felony eluding charges after he evaded a deputy on a motorcycle near George on August 15th—he lost control of the bike and now faces extra misdemeanor charges such as speeding, reckless driving and unregistered vehicle ownership, with a preliminary hearing scheduled on September 12th and bail set at $10,000.  Sioux Country Radio

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Northwest Iowa Community College in Sheldon reached a record fall enrollment with 2,009 students—5.35% more than last fall. The growth marks nearly a 25% increase since 2015 and shows steady progress in student enrollment.  Sioux Country Radio

HEALTH NEWS

  • Sioux City man Mike Jones has battled a rare and aggressive brain tumor for four months with his family by his side. His treatment—a two-week radiation course after a successful biopsy—stabilized the tumor, which shrank in August and will be scanned again in October.  KTIV

  • Sioux City residents have scrambled to secure new housing after a historic apartment building in Grandview Park was red tagged; Luma Heights resident Dale Nicks (70) had lived there for 22 years and was given 72 hours to move out this week.  Sioux City Journal
