Good morning, Sioux City. Here's your local news at a glance for Monday, the 8th of September.

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Iowa business leaders said their members remained optimistic about the state’s economy even though slow hiring and uncertain federal trade policy raised concerns. Gov. Kim Reynolds announced that state unemployment tax rates stayed at their lowest levels, a move projected to save businesses nearly $1.2 billion over the next five years—helping them invest more in their workforce.  Sioux City Journal

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • The Iowa DNR ran a roadside survey that showed a 20-year high in pheasant counts with an average of 28 birds per route—this is the best count since 2005. Experts say the centennial season will see harvests of 600,000 to 700,000 pheasants, helped by a mild winter and higher numbers of quail, partridge and rabbits as hunting begins on Oct. 25.  Sioux City Journal

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • State and tribal law enforcement officers can cross jurisdiction boundaries in pursuit of fleeing suspects—under a new agreement between the Iowa Attorney General’s Office and the Meskwaki Nation—that officials say will boost cooperation.  Sioux City Journal
