COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Members of Congregation Beth Shalom joined a pilgrimage to Israel that turned harrowing when they had to take shelter from missile and rocket strikes and were evacuated by bus from Jerusalem to Jordan on June 22. President Greg Giles said the experience left the group shaken—his smartphone still warns him of threats months later.  Sioux City Journal

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Contractors settled a lawsuit over work at the Woodbury County LEC construction site after Lieber sued Hausmann for $153,806 and Hausmann filed a counterclaim against Lieber — both sides agreed to resolve their claims.  Sioux City Journal

CRIME NEWS

  • A Worthington man was arrested for felony fraud after he allegedly tried to cash a TITO voucher from a slot machine at Grand Falls Casino near Larchwood on July 17—he faces a preliminary hearing on Friday, September 12 while remaining in Lyon County Jail on a $5000 bond for second-degree theft.  Sioux Country Radio
  • A Sioux City woman was charged with slashing a man in the stomach after police found Halstead, a second woman, and the injured man following complaints filed in Woodbury County District Court—authorities are investigating the incident.  Sioux City Journal

CULTURE NEWS

  • KTIV got 7 nominations at the Upper Midwest Emmys — including nods for its coverage of a March blizzard and Siouxland’s historic flooding — and the awards ceremony is set for Oct. 18. This recognition shows the station’s strong local news work.  KTIV

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Sioux City Schools is reviewing an eight-year lease with Morningside University to allow the Mustangs to use East High's field while the university pays for new turf—details of the agreement are still under review.  Sioux City Journal

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • On Monday, Sioux City Council approved a resolution to back plans for a fitness court studio at the Railroad Museum—collaboration involves the Siouxland Historical Railroad Association and the National Fitness Campaign. The measure is expected to offer new fitness opportunities for residents.  Sioux City Journal
  • Sioux City officials said that Mike Collett will continue serving as interim city manager through the budget process in the coming months—Teresa Fitch will also serve as interim assistant.  Sioux City Journal
