- ➤ Siouxlanders remembered the lives lost on 9/11 during a ceremony held Thursday night at Siouxland Freedom Park in South Sioux City—leaders retraced the tragic timeline and retired American flags with care. KTIV
- ➤ Sioux City's Dr. David Paulsrud, a 90-year-old public servant celebrated for his early service as a Green Beret and his pioneering work in addiction treatment, was honored last week with the Roy J. and Lucille A. Carver College of Medicine Distinguished Alumni Award at the University of Iowa. He served the community as an orthopedic surgeon and civic leader—continuing a long legacy of service. - ➤ Growing Community Connections and Source for Siouxland released 2025 data showing licensed center infant care costs increased 11.5% from 2019 to 2023, reaching $201.55 weekly and using over 14.9% of Woodbury County household income—well above CDC recommendations—and the organizations met Thursday morning in Sioux City to discuss how rising childcare costs will impact community planning and service needs. - ➤ Dordt University is celebrating record enrollment for the fall semester by welcoming 2,077 students, including 540 new undergraduates and keeping over 84% of last year s freshmen as returning students. The university is expanding both its undergraduate and graduate programs while investing in key academic areas such as nursing, engineering, agriculture, and business administration. - ➤ Woodbury County is moving forward with demolishing the old downtown jail—official plans show the county will start the process soon. Sioux City Journal
- ➤ Crews on the Highway 75 construction project are working underground near the 3rd Street North intersection and have completed pavement, sidewalks, and streetlights between 5th Street South and 2nd Street North — they will finish water work, concrete details, and paving from 3rd to 5th Street North in the coming weeks. A public update meeting is scheduled for October 8th at 11:00 a.m. at the Sioux Center Public Library where city staff and engineers will answer questions. Sioux Country Radio
