COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Deb Carson, president of the Sioux City Garden Club, said the club will mark its 100th anniversary by giving away 100 burr oak trees to local residents.  Sioux City Journal

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • After a dry start to the season, July’s heavy rain helped crops in Northwest Iowa during the busier planting time—though it also brought small fungus problems like tar spot and southern rust. Experts said the rains left fields in good shape, and farmers are hopeful for strong corn and bean yields as harvest nears.  KTIV

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Today, the U.S. Department of Agriculture announced it will invest up to $18 million in its Farm to School Grant program to support projects that add local food to school meals and boost agriculture education in Iowa + state agencies, tribal organizations and nonprofits can apply through a streamlined process, though some local leaders say the investment does not replace lost pandemic-era funding.  KTIV
