COMMUNITY NEWS

  • On Tuesday, the Food Bank of Siouxland received over 80,000 pounds of chicken from Perdue Farms—an initiative to help fight hunger during Hunger Action Month. It will distribute more than 60,000 meals to local pantries, soup kitchens, and community programs, with part of the donation reserved for the holidays.  KTIV

  • Sioux City Schools saw big rating boosts in the Iowa School Performance Profiles for the 2024-25 school year—showing many schools improved their performance.  Sioux City Journal

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • U.S. Sen. Joni Ernst visited Sioux City Tuesday with Iowa National Guard leaders to promote a new maintenance building for the local First Squadron of the 113 Cavalry Regiment. Mayor Bob Scott said the project—part of a new Armory effort—is built to last for decades and will help boost mission readiness.  Sioux City Journal
  • Woodbury County Human Resources Director Melissa Thomas explained changes to retiree benefits in the recent Five Questions interview (she detailed updates meant to improve retirement support).  Sioux City Journal
  • Woodbury County Supervisors postponed a $200,000 project to improve the auditor and recorder’s offices because the courthouse freight elevator broke last Thursday and parts are no longer available—officials say a custom-built replacement could cost between $150,000 and $300,000 and take at least six months.  Sioux City Journal
