- ➤ IBP Ice Center held its All Abilities Day on Saturday to let individuals with disabilities and their families try sled hockey and stand-up ice skating—partners included Sioux City Parks and Recreation, Siouxland Adaptive Sports, Lightning Sled Hockey, and the Siouxland District Health Department. - ➤ WarHorse Gaming has received a $300 million startup loan to begin constructing a new casino in South Sioux City next summer. The loan will also support expansions at its casinos in Omaha and Lincoln—expansions that will add more gaming space. KTIV

EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Western Iowa Tech Community College launched its student-run FM radio station today. Student DJs celebrated the launch by broadcasting music and programs from the Comet Radio studio—listeners can tune in on KWSR-LP 94.3 FM. KTIV
- ➤ Rep. Taylor Collins said he will propose a bill next year that lets our 15 community colleges offer four-year bachelor’s degrees—this follows a study that showed many local students need more accessible college options. Sioux City Journal
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ A lawsuit was filed on Sept. 19th by Christiansen Commercial Contracting against the city, alleging it breached the contract for the Grandview Park water tank replacement project. The suit claims the city failed to provide the work site—delaying the project and increasing costs—and seeks at least $618,307 in damages. KTIV
- ➤ Sioux City Fire Rescue partnered with the National Fire Protection Association during Fire Prevention Week, which began Sunday, Oct. 5, to teach residents safe lithium-ion battery care at open houses and school visits (held at eight fire stations and local elementary schools) while advising them to use products with safety certifications (like UL, ETL, or CSA) to reduce fire risks. - ➤ With the government shutdown in its third day, the Food Bank of Siouxland said it has reserved funds to add extra food if programs such as WIC, SNAP, and TEFAB lose support—officials warned that if a resolution is not reached by later today, emergency measures would be activated. KTIV
- ➤ The City Council will consider rejecting the Sioux City Engineering Company's bid of $2,099,999.40 for the Pulaski Park drainage project—since the city's engineer estimated the construction cost at $1,864,000. Sioux City Journal
