- ➤ Fall Fest at the Museum is scheduled for this weekend and will host family-friendly activities at the museum — organizers said they will release more details soon. Sioux City Journal
- ➤ The Dorothy Pecaut Nature Center will celebrate its 30th anniversary with guided hikes—face painting, pumpkin decorating, Dutch oven cooking samples, and Nerf gun target shooting are planned. Attendees will also enjoy a self-guided history hike on the Loess Loop Trail and a live performance. Sioux City Journal
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ Dorothy Pecaut Nature Center will celebrate 30 years of nature education and conservation on Oct. 18—with family-friendly activities and treats planned. Sioux City Journal
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ The League of Women Voters hosted a candidate forum on Wednesday night for school board and city council candidates—voters asked about unpaid lunch debts, mental health, and property taxes. Election day is November 4 and the forum helped voters learn the candidates’ plans for Sioux City. KTIV
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ Siouxland District Health stated that its services continue operating without interruption during the federal shutdown as state reserves temporarily cover costs (Health Director Kevin Grieme said key programs like WIC and child health services are being monitored), and families are encouraged to keep their appointments. The department will bill expenses to grant funds once federal funding resumes. KTIV
