COMMUNITY NEWS
- ➤ On November 8, four men from Des Moines helped install free flagpoles for veterans across Iowa as part of the Veteran Flagpole Initiative; a group in Hinton delivered a pole to Ryan and Sasha Downs, marking the 167th flag installation since January 2022. Volunteers from nine groups are putting up 30 flagpoles statewide with a goal of reaching 79 of 99 counties by Veterans Day — November 11. KTIV
- ➤ Members of the community attended the Warming Shelter fundraiser at Buffalo Alice on Sunday evening in downtown Sioux City—raising the remaining $30,000 needed for Phase One improvements that include a new commercial laundry room. The event also featured silent auctions, raffle prizes, and face painting for families. KTIV
- ➤ The Plymouth County Cyclists held their annual Cranksgiving food drive on Nov. 8 in snowy weather to collect food donations for local banks hurt by the government shutdown — they rode to Bike Central in Le Mars to drop off the donated food and awarded prizes for the heaviest loads. KTIV

- ➤ A new recording studio at Siouxland Freedom Park will be unveiled tomorrow on Veterans Day — the facility is set to boost local access to modern recording media. Sioux City Journal
- ➤ Adams Homestead hosted its annual Christmas event on November 8 in North Sioux City—families toured historic, decorated buildings, enjoyed cookies and hot chocolate, and met Santa. Park Manager Jody Moats said a light snowfall boosted the event's charm while nearly 18 years of tradition continue to bring the community together. KTIV
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Sioux City council will discuss selling the Headid Little League ball field complex to Knife River Midwest for $700,000, with the company proposing up to $750,000 for new ball fields while the field remains in use through 2027. Council approval on Monday will trigger a 30-day bidding period and a public hearing on December 15, and city staff have met with the company for over a year to plan an expansion that includes a new rail spur+ rail yard to boost aggregate storage. - ➤ The Wynot Blue Devils won the D2 volleyball championship after a five-set match against the Cambridge Trojans at Lincoln’s Pinnacle Bank Arena on November 8—this victory marks the school’s first state title in volleyball history. KTIV
