COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Sioux City's Cone Park—entering its 9th season—will open Friday, Dec. 19 with fresh powder on its 700-foot tubing hill. Park staff plan special snowmaking during the holiday break so visitors can enjoy this winter sport.  KTIV

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Riverside Elementary marked the 67th day of school yesterday with themed activities that mixed fun with learning, featuring cookie decorating, skits, and games centered on the viral 6-7 trend (a hit on social media). Teachers used the day to brighten lessons and encourage student creativity.  KTIV
  • Sioux City Career Academy has received permits to build its next two houses for vocational training. The approved permits will allow the academy to expand its facilities & support its growing programs.  Sioux City Journal
  • Northwestern College earned its third consecutive Best Christian Workplace honor after achieving its highest score ever + 4.19 on a five-point scale in surveys measuring teamwork, leadership and employee engagement. President Greg Christy credited the achievement to the staff’s strong commitment to the college’s Christian mission.  Sioux Country Radio

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Iowa Finance Authority board awarded federal housing tax credits to two affordable housing projects on Wednesday in Sioux City. The credits will help boost affordable housing in the community.  Sioux City Journal
  • The Iowa Finance Authority awarded more than $12M through the Local Housing Trust Fund Program, which is expected to benefit 2,473 families in Sioux City. The funding aims to support local housing stability.  Sioux City Journal

HEALTH NEWS

  • The Sioux County Board of Supervisors approved $30,000 per year for five years to support Community Health Partners’ opioid prevention and treatment program. The board approved the lower request after the group initially asked for $50,000 annually to bolster its community care efforts.  Sioux Country Radio

  • Midland University volleyball coach Micah Rhodes will have his aunt, Rhonda Rhodes, join him as an honorary coach & support the team during the NAIA Tournament in Sioux City today.  Sioux City Journal
